The European History Section of the Southern Historical Association invites proposals for individual papers and complete panels for presentation at its annual meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas, November 11-14, 2015. Proposals on any aspect of European history, covering any time period, are welcome. The program committee especially encourages proposals involving comparative history, such as Europe and the Americas, Europe and Africa, or Europe and Asia. Roundtable discussions wrestling with the recent work(s) of a particular historian, as well as papers and panels on pedagogy, are also quite welcome.

Panels should consist of two or three papers, a commentator, and a chair. Doctoral students, as well as faculty members and independent scholars, are welcome to submit individual papers or panels. A panel should not consist exclusively of graduate students.

Submissions should include an abstract of approximately 250 words for each paper and a short (1-2 page) c.v. of each panelist. In the case of panels, please include the title of the panel, the name, contact information, and affiliation of the panel organizer, and a one page description of the topic and its rationale as a coherent panel.

The Association of Continental American and Caribbean Studies and Culture (KonaK Vienna) is happy to announce the doctoral seminar “The global dimension in history and historiography” to be hosted by the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, directed by Wolfgang Schmale (University of Vienna) and Christian Cwik (University of the West Indies at St. Augustine). The doctoral seminar deals with questions relating to the global dimension of historical events, phenomena, structures, and processes and their consideration for scientific analysis, interpretation and text production. It addresses advantages, disadvantages, possibilities, impossibilities, theories, methods, as well as potential results and perspectives, and suggests a structured cooperation between regional experts. The emphasis will be on the role of the Congress of Vienna as a turning point for different parts of the global community with regard to the rise of imperialism since 1815, understood as a product of “global thinking”.
